On Spain's rugged west coast, where the Atlantic Ocean breathes deep into the land, lies a maze of estuaries and inlets - formed by centuries of the action of natural forces.
An underwater world where the tides set the pace.
Here, in the interplay of fresh salt water and fresh spring water, Europe's most flavourful seafood riches grow, such as cockles and venus clams.
The Rías Gallegas is an area of ancient tradition and connection with the sea. Local fishermen harvest by hand. often from small boats or in special wading suits, respecting the rhythms of nature. Proud of their nature and their craft.
Along Spain's jagged northern coast, where the mountains almost fall into the sea, lies the Cantabrian Sea - a rough and lively stretch of Atlantic Ocean. With its big tides. Unpredictable. Powerful. And incredibly rich in life.
The cold, nutrient-rich currents create a sea full of characterful fish species. For example, Bonito del Norte (white tuna of Cantabria) and sea bass, as well as octopus. The fish are caught with respect. As much as possible with the line, piece by piece. No rush, no large scale. Only attention and craftsmanship.
In our cans, the fish is gently cooked, lovingly preserved with the highest quality olive oil and subtle herbs.
The Cantabrian Sea. Wild, honest, powerful flavour. A treat with an Atlantic heart.
In the north of Denmark, where the wind has free rein and the light softly dances across the water, lies the Limfjord. Not a crowded area, but a calm, pristine inland sea. Here, among sandbanks and seaweed, grows a seafood that has been a gourmet secret for centuries: the blue mussel.
What makes the Limfjord special is the perfect balance between salt and fresh. The fjord is connected to the cold North Sea as well as receiving fresh water from Denmark's interior. This unique mix gives the mussels a subtle creamy flavour with a salty undertone.
A true delicacy, shaped by nature itself.
Far away from the mainland, where the sky seems endless and the water is deep and icy, stretches the Norwegian Sea. A wild, rugged sea. Untamed and pure. Here lives a fish that has been part of life along the fjords for generations: the Norwegian herring.
In these crystal-clear waters, fed by glaciers and surrounded by mountains, the herring grows up slowly. Fat, firm and flavourful. The long treks through the cold water make the meat compact and rich. Not your average herring, but a fish with character. With bite.
Up in the North Atlantic, between Scotland, Iceland and Norway, lie the Faroe Islands. A rugged and majestic landscape of cliffs and mist. Where the sea pounds vigorously against the shore and the air is purer than anywhere else.
The current around the Faroe Islands is strong, the water icy cold and crystal clear. These conditions make the salmon muscular and firm in texture, with a distinct but pure flavour.
At The Blickerie, we consciously choose salmon from this area. Because quality is not only in taste, but also in origin. In the area near the Faroe Islands, they farm salmon in the most sustainable and responsible way possible. With respect for the ocean ecosystem. Every step in the process - from care to processing - exudes craftsmanship, respect and appreciation for these beautiful animals.
In our cans, this salmon takes on a new stage. Lightly cooked, subtly flavoured with delicate oils and wild herbs. Salmon the way you prefer to taste it: pure, rich, elegant.
Between the continents, in the infinite stretch of cold, blue and wild ocean, we find the fish that are most in their element here. Strong fish, rich in protein and good fatty acids. Like yellowfin tuna and European hake. But also snow crab and sardines, which, thanks to their large shoals, can hold their own there perfectly.
You can taste the power of the fish in the firm flesh. The suppleness of these swimmers can be felt as a caress on the tongue.
The fishermen who venture so far out on the North Atlantic are cut from a special cloth. They know the harsh conditions they may face but are drawn time and again by the passion for fish and the ocean that flows through their souls.
